That's a possibility -- I could see Amazon beating them if they decided to, which, with the Kindle Fire coming out next month, they might decide to do. I was just looking at Amazon's list of supported hardware (what you can stream to) and it's huge. Lots of Blu-Ray players, newer TVs, all the Tivo boxes, the Roku boxes, etc. No direct support for consoles, though, which is pretty big. So buying Netflix would get them that, plus all the deals Netflix apparently has for streaming foreign films.
And Netflix's website is FAR superior for browsing. If anyone buys them, they better keep that. This is one thing I think Netflix has thoroughly beaten everyone else at. ("Oh you like dark-action-comedy-space-adventure movies? Then you might like these!") Amazon's ability to let you browse for movies is awful.
I don't think Apple is anywhere when it comes to streaming video to your TV though, at least not without Apple hardware. That will keep them out of the market for a good while even if they decide to start. I have a hard time envisioning Apple streaming through someone else's hardware.
