There are battles but they rarely are really a crescendo but rather to set the stage for the next batch of political intrigue. Its basically the opposite of LOTR, instead of having horribly written characters as an excuse to have big fight scenes, the big fight scenes in the book are to move characters forward (or in the ground as is often the case).
I wont mind if the TV cuts battles like the end of the first season to save enough money for the important shit. Obviously the big fight at the end of this season will have to get some love. Hopefully not so much that they can't afford to do what they need to though - we have Michael Bay films for that shit.
Funny enough when I recommend this series the amount of plot per episode and its relentless pace forward are often my favorite things to talk about. There are very few moments that don't serve to to drive the overall plot or subplots forward which is both amazing and refreshing. The writing and acting have made these characters rise from ink and paper to become people. As for the other point I agree there weren't many fights but when they do take the time to choreograph it is something to behold. I completely agree that if it came down to a choice between one epic battle and something like Tyrion being well Tyrion I would choose character development every time. As far as costs are concerned I have heard concern from a number of fans that the CGI required for their adult forms might be too much for HBO to handle, and they might or might not cancel the show because of it. Thoughts? Also out of all the characters which is your favorite or whom do you find the most entertaining?
