Just look at the 13th photo in if you want to know what lake effect truly is. We are Buffalo though. Get your ass up, dig your car out, strap the plow on the truck and get your butt to work.

Those things that look like clouds is basically nothing but snow just sitting in a straight line dropping. Until the lake freezes this is pretty common however typically the wind thins it out. This early in the year with less wind the lake effect just sits over us for days at a time. That is when it gets serious. I may have to start using the roof door early this year.
As of right now the snow is higher than my house windows which is 8 feet high.
