while this topic is just about dead, i will throw out a few things.
my father was one of what i would call those stoic men. after 15yrs on the MO Highway Patrol, he worked over 150 fatalities. he died of cancer at age 55, one month after my daughter was born (she will be 13 in Aug) and he man'ed up the whole time.
did i see him drunk? a couple times sure, but i can remember only see him tear up once when his dog died.
now, it is not a classic. most people are to young to have heard of it. the acting is subpar and Robert Urich was never more than the B list actor. but one of the characters that would fall into a stoic roll is Spencer for Hire. throw in the moralistic aspect of his character, and i found it quite entertaining. it ran 65 episodes in the mid 80's.
