If the definition of evolution is "life spawning more evolved life" then intelligent robots could fit the definition of "evolution". We are simply creating a more evolved lifeform. Rather than doing it in the primitive egg-and-sperm way, we just build it in a factory. (We probably aren't that far off from making humans in a factory, for that matter.)
